Hampton Roads Planning District Commission provided information regarding a regional effort to encourage residents to buy local. Buying local keeps our dollars invested in our communities. A Buy Local Month, scheduled November 15 – December 15, 2019, would be an opportunity to build awareness of the benefits of supporting local independent businesses.
By “Buying Local,” Hampton Roads’ residents will keep money circulating in the local economy for a longer period of time and with more impact. For every $100 spent at a local-independent business, $45 goes back into the local community, versus only $14 when spent at a national chain store in the same community.
